Coach Amorim Insists Not to Resign at United however Acknowledges Dismissal Looms Should Performances Fail to Get Better

The Manchester United manager has stated emphatically that he will not resign from his position in spite of the club's current difficulties, though he admits that he faces dismissal if performances fail to improve.

Current Challenges & League Position

Amorim has managed just thirty-four points in 33 Premier League matches, with the club currently sitting 14th in the table after a 15th-place finish last season. United have secured only two victories from the first seven fixtures this campaign, including an early Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby and a recent loss against Brentford. That outcome extended Amorim's search for his first back-to-back Premier League wins after arriving 11 months ago.

Up next, Sunderland travel to the Theatre of Dreams, and another defeat would increase the pressure facing Amorim.

Amorim's Position on Resignation

Questioned on whether he consider resigning, Amorim stated: “Absolutely not, that's a decision for the directors. I won't take that step. Sometimes I get those thoughts and defeat is hard, failing to build positive momentum. It is so frustrating after you create that momentum, go to the following match, something happens. That emotion often hurts me deeply. It impacts the players and especially the coaching team at the club. But it isn't my decision and I believe it'd be really hard to leave if I haven't given everything to pursue my path here.”

“It’s an honor to manage here and I want to continue at the club and I'm determined to battle for success. But the problem now that causes me suffer is to lose matches, not to lose my position. You fear to lose your role if you have to cover the bills and I don’t feel that pressure.”

Explaining His Formation Tactics

Amorim additionally offered a spirited defence of the three-at-the-back formation, which has been the focus of much scrutiny. Amorim has used the formation consistently and it is yet to deliver steady results desired.

“No one at the club is foolish,” Amorim said. “We know that we need results to continue the project. We'll get to a stage where it's impossible for everyone because United is a very big club with many partners, under dual ownership. It's challenging, managing expectations is really hard. What I want is for my team – in victory or defeat – performing the same way and we are not doing so.”

He pointed out that the team had played in different systems under previous managers, yet without success. “We need to play with consistency, with equal intensity, with the same intensity, with the required concentration. Should we achieve that, it doesn’t matter what the system is.”

Arrangements for Winter Friendlies

Amorim confirmed intentions to arrange lucrative mid-season exhibition games in order to increase revenue lost by not qualifying for European competition. “We have to do it and we knew it after missing out on Europe,” he explained. “We have the supporters and financial needs and we want to be with supporters globally.”

Tribute for Manchester Incident

Manchester United will hold a minute’s silence on Saturday and the players will wear black armbands as a mark of tribute following the terrorist attack at a synagogue earlier this week. Manchester City will also pay respects for their league and Women’s Super League fixtures over the coming days.
