Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
