Air travel have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a significant ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended after an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, considerable delays are likely to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the full ground stop to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Flyers should still plan to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as backlogs are cleared.
