Tuchel Criticizes Wembley Crowd Support Despite Dominant Win Over Wales.
The England head coach voiced his regret that the England team did not enjoy greater backing from the Wembley fans during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his team maintain their strong performance, with goals from Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter deciding the match. However, he was not content with the energy at the national stadium.
“We had limited training days to get ready against a organized team and we performed excellently,” the coach remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at the break. We couldn’t score the additional ones. There was little noise. We didn’t get any energy back from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the team earned better encouragement today.”
“I support my words. There’s nothing more than being three goals up in a derby. I hoped for a greater support in moments where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to refocus, but that’s football and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Away from risking a fight with supporters, the manager also caused a stir by leaving out Bellingham and Foden from his team selection. However the move was backed up by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and scoring his maiden goal for his country.
“That’s his style,” the head coach explained. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Lessons from Loss
Craig Bellamy hopes that Wales, who host Belgium in a important World Cup qualifier on next week, improve after their awful first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this friendly,” the manager commented. “I wanted to assess our standing. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Watkins was substituted at half-time after clattering into a goalpost and is a concern when England face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on Tuesday.
